Only an hour or so from Inverness, Wester Ross in the Highlands of Scotland is an ideal destination for a self catering holiday.
Wester Ross stretches from Lochcarron in the south to Achiltibuie in the north and is a wild mountainous county with many picturesque coastal villages with restaurants serving delicious local produce and fresh seafood. Applecross, Torridon, Gairloch, Poolewe and Ullapool are great places to visit any time of the year.
Opinan is a small hamlet situated near the head of the peninsula between Loch Ewe and Gruinard Bay. This peninsular, which culminates at Greenstone Point enjoys magnificent views of both sea and mountains. |
To the north are the Summer Isles and The Coigach peaks and to the east, across Gruinard Bay, the impressive mountain ranges of An Teallach.
Heatherside is a large detached bungalow ideal for both couples and families. It is situated in a 2-acre garden, just off a quiet road near the head of the peninsula. If you are looking for peace and quiet, with the option of plenty of activities, you won’t find better.
There are many walks that start from house including a leisurely stroll on the beautiful beach at Mellon Udrigle and a more challenging hike around the headland to Greenstone Point. This is an ideal base from which to tour this scenic and unspoilt area. Gruinard Bay and Inverewe Gardens are a short drive away and further afield are all the amenities provided in the towns of Gairloch (20miles) and Ullapool ( 45miles). |
